Granular Peripheries

This is anti-autobiographical
An image becomes a record of how x sees y
When we see a landscape, we situate ourselves in it
You get an image, you get an image, you get an image
This is a topography, this is dedicated to mystifications
Portraits that talk memories, that speak Decembers, that yell mapping
Not a self portrait, a selves portrait
This is pencil on purpose
Images were first made to conjure something that was absent
Substitute self for self, hair for gold, you for you
You get an image, you get an image, you get an image
-Text from Granular Peripheries
Granular Peripheries meditates on how bodies in motion soak up the landscapes that we move with and amongst: people, buildings, sonic vibrations, weather patterns, and pasts. Generated from research into absence and erasure, this solo considers the social and architectural histories of each performance site as fellow choreographer. It puts pressure on the notion of being “solo” - in performance or in the world - and it considers the dancing body as a mode for perceiving and transmitting those in various forms of proximity. This “solo” invites audiences to consider who has passed and continues to pass through the spaces we inhabit. It asks us to feel into periphery and to rely on other senses than sight. Granular Peripheries has been generated anew at each performance site based on its histories of moving bodies and architectures. This solo archives the places it travels to, including Research Project (Chicago), Roman Susan Gallery (Chicago), Northwestern University (Evanston), Play House (Detroit), Links Hall (Chicago), and The Edge Theater (Chicago).
